Americans in Portugal Rally Against US Policies, Mideast Military Actions

(MENAFN) Around 200 Americans living in Portugal gathered on Saturday outside Porto City Hall to protest the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, particularly its military operations in the Middle East, according to reports.

The demonstration aimed to oppose perceived authoritarian tendencies and to highlight the importance of democratic governance. Organized by American volunteers residing in Portugal, the rally was part of coordinated actions in multiple cities worldwide designed to draw attention to the direction of U.S. politics and policies under Trump.

Robert Glassburner, an American resident since 1983 and performer with Porto’s Casa da Musica Symphony Orchestra, told the crowd, “We are against these policies of the current U.S. government, both abroad and at home. And above all, against the war that is taking place in the Middle East. That war was ordered solely by Trump and was not authorized by Congress.

The Constitution says that any military action must be approved by the United States Congress.”

Participants chanted slogans and voiced concerns about a wide range of issues related to the U.S. government. Organizers said the protest reflected the “frustration and alarm” of Americans living abroad over policies they believe undermine democratic institutions and the rule of law, as stated by reports.
